Passionflower

Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) originally grows in Asia and North-America, but is cultivated almost everywhere. The leaves have three or five lobes with finely serrated edges and solitary white flowers containing a purple, blue or pink crown in the center. The ripe fruit, oval-shaped and orange, is callled a maypop.

The most important active ingredients belong to the harmala alkaloids, such as harmine and harmaline.
Effects
Passionflower herb has an overall calming effect. It could be used to help you sleep better. It also helps to relax when facing stressful conditions.
In larger quantities it may have a mild hallucinogenic effect. Some people combine it with magic mushrooms to intensify the shroom trip.
Usage
Passionflower is often combined with herbs like damiana, lobelia, skullcap and hops (Humulus lupulus). It can be drunk as a tea. Steep 2 grams in 150 ml of hot water for half an hour. Drink this up to 3 - 4 times a day.
As for the powder, mix one teaspoon in a glass of juice or water. You can also mix the powder with some yoghurt or pudding.
Warning
Passionflower is a mild MAO-inhibitor. When you combine it with particular
psychoactive products or food, it can cause headache, high blood pressure and/or nausea. Please refer to our MAO-Inhibitor page for a list of products to avoid when using strong MAO-inhibitors.

“Anyone knows, how much of this stuff should be used to get an efective MAOI effect in an ayahuasca analog? Will it work as a P.harmala or B.caapi substitute?
[answer from Azarius: No, it's not potent enough to serve as an ayahuasca analog. You'd have to take more than 200 grams. Whereas you need only 2 to 3 grams of P.harmala.]”

“Gentle herb, relaxing herb. Useful for hangovers, especially after hard cannabis sessions :)”

“Passionflower was recommended to me to use while watching a movie. And I can recommend it to anyone who uses it for that: it relaxes, but keeps you sharp at the same time and doesn`t make you (me) dizzy.”
