Indian Tobacco (Lobelia inflata)








Lobelia inflata is known under many illustrious names such as: Indian tobacco, emetic herb, emetic weed, gagroot, vomitroot, pukeweed, asthma weed, bladderpod and eyebright. The most important active substance is lobeline. It is mostly used as a substitute for nicotine by people who want to quit smoking cigarettes.
Effects
Lobelia is relaxing and slightly euphoric. It is good for the regulation of the nervous system and it soothes the bronchial tubes and the throat.
Usage
Lobelia inflata can be made into tea, using a small quantity: a quarter or half a teaspoon of herb in a cup of boiling water. Infuse for 10 to 15 minutes.
Warning
Overdose can cause choking and/or pressure on throat and upper chest.
