Dutch poet and activist Simon Vinkenoog passes away

On Sunday July 12 Simon Vinkenoog passed away, due to a brain haemorrhage.

Two years ago the celebrated poet and drug activist could be seen and heard at the protest rally against the Dutch ban on mushrooms, as well as the LSD symposium in Basel. For years Simon published articles, books and poems, in which he was always very outspoken about his appreciation of psychedelic substances. In 1968 he was asked by the popular New Age magazine Bres to write an article on LSD, and a year later he wrote a translation of "The Psychedelic Experience: A Manual Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead" (by Tim Leary, Ralph Metzner and Richard Alpert). Simon also wrote several articles for a cannabis-related magazine, and had a short political career as a member of the Green Free! party, which supported the legalization of cannabis. This party didn't make it into parliament, but because of his involvement he earned the title of "the weed ambassador".

We will miss you Simon. Your fighting spirit and poetic expressions have always been a source of inspiration to us. Farewell.
