The Cuzcoensis cactus (Echinopsis peruviana) belongs to the same species of cacti as the San Pedro and Bolivian torch and looks so similar that it’s often mistakenly identified, even by cacti connoisseurs.

This variety of the Peruvian torch is named after the city of Cuzco, Peru, where it was first identified. Like the more famous San Pedro (E. pachanoi), the Cuzcoensis has a long history of shamanistic use.

This cactus is a rare, blue-green columnar with long, ribbed columns and spines up to 3 cm long. It can grow up to 6 meters tall and produces white fragrant flowers.

Note: this cutting is shipped without pot or soil.

Cultivating Echinopsis peruviana cuzcoensis

This cactus is easy to grow and thrives in both dry and moist regions. In a moist and warm climate, it’ll grow quickly when watered daily. As it’s originally found at rain-rich, higher altitudes in Peru, the cactus is accustomed to larger amounts of water than its desert-hardened cousins.

At the same time, the cactus is quite forgiving and can survive for several weeks without water and up to a temperature of 10°C. Standard cactus soil found at your local gardening centre will do perfectly. The ideal location for this cutting is a bright spot, where it gets plenty of sunlight during the day. Keep dry in the winter.
